English/German tours

Information for our international visitors

muZIEum also offers tours in English and German. So even if you are not Dutch, you are more than welcome to our experiences!

muZIEum
What is it like to be blind or partially sighted? You can read about it or someone can tell you about it from their own experience, but during a visit to muZIEum (muSEEum) you will experience it yourself. Enter a world in which your other senses - hearing, smell, touch and taste - suddenly play a far more important role than you are used to.

muZIEum is not a museum where you admire objects on display. You are an important part of the experience yourself. This is what makes a visit to muZIEum unique. We offer three different tours: two different tours in absolute darkness and one tour through the city centre of Nijmegen. Our tour guides are blind or partially sighted and are happy to tell you more about living with sight loss. After your visit, you will see the world through different eyes!

Tour in absolute darkness
During this tour you will experience what life would be like if you were blind. It is pitch black and you will literally not see a thing. We offer two different tours in absolute darkness. During the 'A day in the life of…' tour, our guide shows you the everyday life of someone who is blind. You can also choose to immerse yourself in the vacation atmosphere during the 'On holiday with…' tour, of course all without sight.

  • Minimum age: 8 years
  • Price: adults € 16,50
  • Price: children 8-12 years € 11

Outside tour through the city centre of Nijmegen
Imagine you can hardly see traffic passing you by. You hear voices, running feet, a car horn. How will you find your way? During our tour through Nijmegen’s city centre you will experience first-hand what it means to be partially sighted. A pair of virtual reality glasses will simulate different forms of sight loss.

  • Minimum age: 13 years
  • Price: € 16,50
  • Duration: 60 minutes
  • Booking required: available for two or more people

Important information
All of our guides are blind or partially sighted, and you will go on a tour in groups of about six (outside tour) or seven (tour in absolute darkness) persons. When you arrive, one of our employees will show you how to use a cane, after which you will step into darkness or go outside. Therefore, we ask you to arrive at least thirty minutes before your tour starts.

In our foyer you can learn more about living with sight loss and using your other senses through playing games, writing braille, etc.

Please tell us your preferences regarding language. We have guides who can speak English or German. Please also inform us about any other relevant personal information, such as disability or pregnancy. We are happy to advise you and to make sure the tour you choose fits your situation.
